The long-cherished dream and demand of the people of Thakurgaon was fulfilled through the laying of the foundation stone of the proposed public university.Today,Monday, at 11 am,President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir laid the foundation stone of the university in Bhatarmar Sugarcane Farm area of Jamalpur Union in Thakurgao Sadar Upazila.​After the foundation stone was laid,the President said in a well-attended gathering that the people of Thakurgaon had a long-standing desire to establish a national-level public university in the district. In continuation of Prime Minister Tareq Rahman's commitment, the path to fulfilling that expectation has been paved.

​In his speech the President thanked the Almighty Allah and said that by His infinite mercy, the long-standing hope of people from all walks of life in Thakurgao is going to be fulfilled today. He expressed his sincere thanks and deep gratitude to Prime Minister Tareq Rahman for the approval of the university and direct instructions for determining the location in the shortest possible time.

​Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the land allocated for the university was obtained from the Ministry of Industry and the Thakurgao Sugar Mill authorities. He thanked all concerned for their cooperation.He expressed optimism that the master plan and infrastructure design of the university would be finalized very soon and the main construction work would begin.This university will play a historic role in the expansion of higher education, job creation, and local economic transformation. He called on the local people to come forward to protect the institution.

When the journalists present at the end of the program asked about the recent political situation,the President first said,"I am now in a position above politics, so I will not answer political questions."However, highlighting the prevailing situation in the country,he said, "We no longer want to see politics of conflict or revenge.Enough is enough."Now the only demand of the people of the country is a political culture of compromise, democracy and tolerance.

The special guests at the event were Minister of Relief and Disaster Management Asadul Habib Dulu,State Minister Farhad Hossain Azad,and Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr.Israfil Shahin. Among others,members of the university syndicate,administrative officials, distinguished academics, local political figures, journalists,and representatives of various professional organizations were present.
